The Dove of Peace, which was probably brought to Poland by Pablo Picasso in 1948, for the World Congress of Intellectuals for Peace. According to Eugeniusz Get-Stankiewicz it was given by Picasso to Andrzej Will, and after many years it was given to Domek Miedziorytnika in Wrocław. It is certain that the Dove was not made by Picasso and the circumstances are unclear as to how it ended up in Picasso’s possession. The artist, who at that time was an active member of the French Communist Party, drew a dove of peace (for which he later received the Lenin Prize) on a napkin at the restaurant of Monopol Hotel. However, it was a completely different bird, with a different shape and “taking off” towards a different direction. The communist regime willingly used doves for propaganda purposes which eventually led to a veritable “dovemania”.
