View of the presbytery of the Church of Saint Elizabeth in Wrocław from the eastern side – the blaze of history
Over the centuries, the Church of Saint Elizabeth in Wrocław faced various construction disasters, but thanks to the efforts of the residents, it was always able to regain its glory. While comparing the interior design of the church from 1925 with its current state, we can see the scale of the changes that the building has undergone over several decades. For instance, the 19th-century wall polychromes and paintings at the main Baroque altar have been removed and replaced with contemporary paintings.

The church tabernacles, manufactured in great numbers in the Middle Ages, served as the place for storing the Holy Communion. They were made as a recess in the wall with lattice doors, or as more impressive architectural and sculptural structures. The church tabernacle fitted in the Church of Saint Elizabeth in 1455 was one of the greatest pieces of art of its type in Silesia, beside the ones found in the Wrocław Churches of Saint Mary Magdalene and the Blessed Virgin Mary on Sand, as well as the basilica in Strzegom and the parish church in Ziębice.
