The altar of Saint Barbara is considered one of the greatest pieces of late-Gothic art in Silesia which reflects the main trends of the era, rooted in Netherlandish painting, art of Rhineland and Southern Germany. It was the main reredos of the Wrocław Church of Saint Barbara – which for many years served the function of a cemetery church of the parish of Saint Elizabeth. Originally, the altar was equipped with two sets of wings – with scenes depicting the life of Saint Barbara, the passion of Christ and the coronation of Mary – which were lost during the Second World War.
