Philipp Jacob Sachs von Löwenheim was a doctor and naturalist from Wrocław. He was born in Wroclaw in 1627 in the family of Tobias Sachs von Löwenheim, an owner of properties in Brzezinka Średnia, next to Środa Śląska.
He studied in Leipzig, Leiden, Paris and Montpellier. He was also trained by the most famous doctors. He completed his PhD in 1651 in Padua. After returning to Wrocław, he worked as a doctor. He corresponded with the most eminent scholars of the era. He published many articles in the field of medicine, botany, zoology, mineralogy and chemistry. He was the first Silesian to be accepted in Academia Naturae Curiosorum in Schweinfurt. Thanks to his attempts the private academy became an imperial scientific institution called Leopoldina. He also created an important branch of this academy in Wrocław.
He was considered one of the most eminent scholars of the 17th century. In honor of his achievements in 1671 he was conferred by the city council of Wrocław with the title of the city doctor. He died in Wrocław at the age of forty-four.
