The General Political and Administrative Map of Lower Silesia (Parte inferiore del Ducato di Silesia descritto […]) from the late 17th century was made at scale of about 1:500000. The engraved copperplate (60×47 centimetres), coloured by hand at the time of its creation, is decorated with a cartouche in the top right corner. It is a unique example of Italian Baroque cartography related to Silesia, created by Giacomo Cantelli da Vignola, the court geographer of the Duke of Modena. The landscape is depicted using colourful mounds, city signs are presented as vignettes written in German, while the extensive and clear hydrographical layout and descriptions of duchies are provided in Italian.
