One of the greatest pieces found in the museum collections of Wrocław, created by the famous Wittenberg artist, was given to a Wrocław Bishop, Jan Thurzon, by Johann Hess, who later became the first Protestant parish priest of the Church of Saint Mary Magdalene in Wrocław in 1517. The beauty of the painting was never overshadowed by its turbulent fortunes after the war, which fortunately had a happy ending several years ago as Madonna under the Fir Tree returned to the city by the River Oder.
