Golden Bull (Aurea bulla Fundationis Universitatis Wratislaviensis) is the founding act of the Jesuit University of Wrocław signed by Emperor Leopold I on 21 October 1702. The Imperial Diploma appointed a university with two faculties (theology and philosophy), awarding privileges similar to universities in Paris, Bologne and Vienna, determining insignia and academic authorities. The rector of the Jesuit college was the head of the university; he was appointed by the general of the order, while the authorities of the order decided about the Professors to be employed. The first inauguration of the academic year took place on 15 November 1702 on the St. Leopold’s Day. The Golden Bull is kept in the Department of Manuscripts at the Wrocław University Library.
